What Is and What Was, Monotype with Oil

My latest monotype embellished with oil.  This came about as a mistake with another piece, but once I looked at it carefully, I saw possibilities.  A little playing with color and image and she came into being.  Now this piece will be available for the duration of art exhibit, January 10-February 13 at the Art Association of Harrisburg, Phone: (717)236-1432.

Illusions

"A Motley Crew," Newest Oil Painting

Just finished this newest piece in my Facial Fantasies series.  A mélange of faces, colors, lines, and more.  And did I just add a French word to this description?  Just seemed to say it all.  This piece required a lot of effort, a lot of thinking and not thinking to just let it happens.

"I Love my Land and my People, Oil Painting on Gessoed Paper

Another one of my Southwest paintings.  Because I live in the Southwest, it is impossible to ignore the influence of land and people on my work.  I have been told to work in one genre only as many artists have been told by galleries and art professionals and most of my work is contemporary figurative or abstract.  However, every once in a while for a change of pace, I go back to Southwest work.  This is the latest.

A New Monotype in the Works

Starting to work on a new monotype similar to The Secrets Within.  This is the first step:  random strokes of etching ink applied to a plastic plate, then run off with the etching press.  Where it goes from here, I am uncertain.  Another monoprint on top?  Watercolor applied in the between spaces?  Oil applied to make a portrait?  Or something completely different?

A man in a hat, not the cat in a hat--an image which appeared as I was playing with color and line.  Somewhere deep in my psyche I have an image of a man here in Taos who wore a tall hat much of the time (much like the man in this monotype).  He is long gone from Taos and the planet, but the residual remains.

"Between the Two of Us," Another Blog Now in Italy

Another facial fantasy for an exhibit in Bologna.  It is so much fun creating these faces outside the realm of reality.  We all live in another space from time to time.  Who knows what runs through the mind?  It is fun to imagine how we might look in another space and time.
