I was so impressed with Lightman's novel that I felt compelled to put the nebulous concept of time onto canvas. Lightman conjures up so many impressions of time, probably more than I can put onto canvas, but I shall try.

It seems that the more I read, the more images race around in my head. The last novel to linger for a long time is Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. Published in 1992, it has so much relevance for what is happening in the tech world today: avatars, metaverses, and more that may come into being. Some of the characters seem to be from another universe with their bizarre personas. I read and paint images of duality, but why not triality as we thing about alternate universes? And what about that other 60 percent or more of the brain which we do not use? This character or characters lead one to wonder.

Inspired by my reading of Generations of Winter by Vassily Aksyonov, this image represents members of the Gradov family as they make their lives in the Stalin era. Members of the privileged class at the start of the Revolution, their fates are subject to the whims of the government. Their survival in the gulags and prisons of the Stalinist era is a story of passion and determination to live as shown in different ways.

I love to paint faces and heads. The head has so many different angles and planes, physically and psychologically. Whether painting representationally or abstractly, each one is different. Each has its own character and personality. This painting attempts to represent two different aspects of personality integrating into the whole.
I have been reading deKooning's biography and with it, the biography of the New York and American art scenes in the 30s and 40s. America was influenced by European art movements: surrealism, cubism, modern art, in general. This painting is my attempt at cubism inspired by the art of those who came before.

I love begonias. So graceful, so full of life as they bring such joy to the eye and to the summer portale. Each year they spread their beauty as they hang in the gentle breezes. And each fall, as they are taken inside, they slowly lose yellow petals, then ultimately leaves until there is nothing left. And each winter, I wonder: will they return in spring? They appear to be dead knobs which can never spring forth life again, but lo and behold in early spring, I see one tiny leaf, and then another tiny leaf as if to say "Do not give up on me. I will be ready to go back outside to spring into life once again." So to the immortal yellow begonia--enjoy your time in the outdoors."

I don't know this woman. Bits and pieces of her appeared on the canvas and all of a sudden there she was reminding me of the power of thought and imagination. It has been a while since I have painted a redhead--my husband claims that becoming a redhead is one of my hidden desires. This is the first portrait painted since "Searching for my Muse in the Paleolithic Caves of the Alps." Quite a contrast. Perhaps one is as I see myself and this one is what I would like to see myself.
