My entry into the Taos Fall Arts festival held until October 2. Who knows what the future holds? None of us expected an epidemic like COVID. Outer space holds so much promise for life in the future if only we can take care of the planet and ourselves to become a less divisive planet. The promise of a better planet in the universe beckons us all.

I was so impressed with Lightman's novel that I felt compelled to put the nebulous concept of time onto canvas. Lightman conjures up so many impressions of time, probably more than I can put onto canvas, but I shall try.

One of my more recent paintings exploring duality of self. Part of my fascination with this concept stems from "my other life" in the world of disability. I worked for several years as a college professor in Special Education at the University of Maryland, a director of a nonprofit school to work program for disabled youth in San Francisco, and a diagnostic specialist in a Federally funded program at the California School for the Deaf, Fremont. There was always so much more to comprehend in these individuals than what was apparent to the eye or ear. But isn't that the way it is with all of us? Much remains hidden underneath the surface--it may or may not become visible in a lifetime.

A man in a hat, not the cat in a hat--an image which appeared as I was playing with color and line. Somewhere deep in my psyche I have an image of a man here in Taos who wore a tall hat much of the time (much like the man in this monotype). He is long gone from Taos and the planet, but the residual remains.
