The world of the mind is a fascinating place, one that I love to frequent as I read literature, paint pictures of fantasy and reality, and just think about whatever appears. In this day and age of technology, I wonder how many people actually give themselves the luxury of introspection. We seem to value the bombardment of external stimuli more than the stream of internal ones.
The Taos Center for the Arts annually sponsors a juried exhibit of self portraits from local artists. The variety of images and the way in which artists see themselves is staggering. This ghost of a monotype is my perception of self: the side of me hidden away from the world, one which I have loved to explore since childhood and continue to do so today. It is a world in which literature has planted so many characters and plots, in which perception of the world has planted so many visual images, and in which life has inserted itself in so many ways.
Introspective, Monotype Ghost on Paper with Charcoal, 16" X 6" (image size), $195 USD
