I don't keep or print the ghosts for all the monotypes which I create. Some ghosts are better than others--and I am not talking about things that go bump in the night. A ghost can be printed from an original monotype. It is created from the ink remaining on the plate from which the original is printed. The ink will be fainter, sometimes losing a color or reducing it to such a vague hue that it can barely be detected, but the essence of the work can be figured out--usually. I liked what remained from Phantasme and decided to print it--just for fun. What appeared on the paper, I liked and with a few swirl and lines here an there with a pen, it became intriguing and thought provoking.
Framed in a contemporary black frame, this piece makes for a good companion for my other contemporary faces or it can stand alone in a special corner.
Phantasme (ghost) (Item 658), ghost monotype on paper, 16" X 6" (unframed size); 21" X 11" (framed size), $160.
