The Art Association of Harrisburg’s Fall Membership Exhibition is entitled “Literary Illusions” runs from September 8-October 10, 2013. I thought about the many characters scampering through my mind from the books which I have read and continue to read. Which one? So much of my work is indirectly influenced by literature, but seldom does a character take what I perceive to be a more literal form. This one did.
Several months ago I read The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury, at the end of which I understood why it is called an outstanding piece of science fiction. The Martians are tiny, light brown unless they are challenged by feelings and then the face becomes a silver mask. This is the face of my Martian. Feelings about cultures, civilizations, people. Who knows what he is thinking? I can imagine--are these people getting ready to do to our planet what they have done to their own?
