Just decided to document progress on this painting. Not sure where it is going. Today was the first day of its progress. I started in the same way that I start most of my paintings unless I am painting from a model, from a still life, or have a definite end in mind. Such was not the case with this painting. I started by putting orange wash on part of the canvas, then going in with a large brown and a large black oil crayon to add marks at random on the canvas. Following that I added more color. Turn the canvas on its side, turn it upside down, keep flipping it around to find the right place to begin to elaborate. There was just a hint of a face in the upper middle. I love the human face. Add to it, change color, add some more marks, etc. This is the end result, but not really the end result because after I live with it for a few days, I will make decisions about its future. Add to it? Erase part of it? Change colors? Who knows what the end result will be? At this point I like parts of it, but there may be changes and additions. Stay tuned.
Who can this figure be? Looks like a psychological sort or perhaps a Biblical character or a character from books which I am currently reading. Time will tell.
